The restoration and extension of a Grade II listed Georgian house and associated mews in Bloomsbury, London. Having been used as a publisher’s office since the 1970s, the house is being returned to a single dwelling along with the mews which is also being reconfigured.
A new room is placed in the garden between both buildings which is designed as a transparent box spanning between reclaimed brick walls whilst reusing the foundations and floor slab of a redundant twentieth century utility building.
The main house is being refurbished with a particular emphasis on restoration of the finer rooms on ground and first floors. This includes the reinstatement of their original plan form which was lost when they were converted to offices.
